Pre Activity

Hula Mele - Dance Song

For centuries, stories of the people, their adventures, discoveries, and wisdom were told through oli (chants) often accompanied by hula (dance), performed by men and women.  This tradition continues today in the lives of cultural practioners. Learn a rhythm and hula demonstrating the time of voyagers of the vast Pacific.

Lino - Weave

Learn to weave a kupe’e lima (bracelet) significant to our heritage. Step-by-step, our Cultural Guides will teach you a simple, easy-to-follow weaving pattern that you can wear as a good luck charm. This keepsake will serve as a memorabilia to remember  your experience with us at the Coconut Grove Hana.

Menu

Dine on traditional cuisine at its finest. Our menu of mea’ai ono (delicious food) reflect our cultural demonstrations practiced within our rural community of Hana. The provided selection of protein options are parallel to classic meals of our islands, fully flavored with natural cured seasoning of Hawaii. Seasonal staple of ulu ( breadfruit) picked fresh from our Grove, or kalo (taro) harvested from the lo’i (taro patch) of East Maui, or ‘uala (sweet potato) from local Hana Farmers. Lush mountain range bring the vibrant seasonal juicy pohole fern shoots. Served, of course, with the local favorite, coconut milk pudding, haupia. Take your pick of mea’ai ono to enjoy at Coconut Grove Hana’s live cultural experience.
